Thermo-treated wood is a new
generation of wood material and superior to non-treated wood
in these ways:
*100% chemically free - a green
product *Increased weather durability by 25 years for
outdoor applications *Increased dimensional stability -
swelling and shrinkage is reduced by 5-15 times *Repels
moisture *Visually, the finished products has an
even brown
color consistent to the center of the wood with a
beautifully accented grain structure *Extremely versatile
The versatility of Thermo-treated wood makes it a widely
used material for both interior and exterior applications,
such as siding, roofing, decking, garden furniture, hardwood
flooring, doors, windows, fences, musical instruments etc.
Other applications ideal for thermo-treated wood are high
moisture environments such as, areas around swimming pools,
sinks, bathtubs, floors in bathrooms etc. The list is
really only limited by a persons imagination. The natural
elegance of Thermo-treated wood and its distinguishing
features make it extremely easy to integrate into the most
stunning and innovative designer solutions.
The
thermo-treatment process is made possible by using
technology integrated into specially designed kilns. The
chamber is crafted from stainless steel and is air tight
allowing complete control of the internal atmosphere. The
process begins by removing the chambers oxygen and raising
the temperature to levels of 400-450 degrees Farenheit.
When the target temperature is reached it remains constant
for 2-3 hours. Steam is introduced to prevent the wood from
burning or cracking and helps to create the desired changes
which result in a new molecular structure. The lumber is
then cooled with condensation. The total process takes
approximately 12 to 16 hours.
The reason for
thermo-treated wood being so durable and stable is the
molecular changes in thermo-treated wood compared to
untreated wood. 95% of the polysaccharide are removed
during the high temperature processing which in turn makes
the thermo-treated wood so durable. The thermo-treated wood
assumes it's minimal size, which substantially reduces
moisture related swelling and shrinkage and increases
hardness. Wooden floors and furniture for bathrooms and
other high humidity areas are now acceptable.
The
thermo-treatment process enhances the wood color creating an
even brown tint that is consistent beyond the surface (the
color is consistant completely thru the wood making
scratches invisible, which is important to high-traffic
areas as an example). The natural wooden grain is
accentuated, giving the appearance of exotic wood or walnut
for a fraction of the cost.
Chemicals are never used
during the thermo-treatment process, so the material remains
environmentally safe. You and your family can have piece of
mind that the surface is free from chemicals and safe to
enjoy. |
